Letter to our Railway Minister. Dear Thiru Suresh Prabhu

Letter to our Railway Minister. Dear Thiru Suresh Prabhu

Vanakkam. While thanking you for your kind New Year Greetings, I request you to accept my  hearty greetings to you for the New Year 2016. I have received your Letter No. MR/VIP/32/2016 dated 22-1-2016 and I thank you very much for the same. I am quite aware of all the dynamic initiatives you have been undertaking  in regard to new physical infrastructure and expansion of connectivity to new areas. I am also happy about your distinct efforts to improve  Service delivery overcoming  certain challenges. I wish you success  in all your endeavours to make Railways a more  responsive  Organisation

I will be failing in my duty if I do not  point out  stalling of a number of projects relating to Tamil Nadu. It pains my heart to mention that Tamil Nadu has not been given its  due  share by the Indian Railways for long.  Though reasons like  financial deficit, problems and complications in finalising the Tenders and cases pending  in the Courts relating to Land Acquisition are adduced for giving up the projects,  I am not fully convinced whether they have no solution at all.  Chennai  Beach - Korukkuppettai Third Line, Chennai Central - Basin Bridge 5th and 6th Line,  Athippattu - Puthur 88.3 KMs Long New Line,  Chennai Beach - Athippattu 4th Line;  all these projects  were already started with a view to improve connectivity  and reduce congestion in Chennai Sub-Urban areas but alas,  they have  been withdrawn now.   Other important projects which are held up by Railways  are Kumbakonam - Tiruvarur,  Omalur - Mettur Dam,  Erode - Palani,  Thirupperumpudur - Guduvancherry,  Madurai - Tutucorin via. Aruppukkottai,  Bengaluru - Sathiamangalam,  Tindivanam - Thiruvannamalai,  Madurai - Bodinaickanur,  Chennai - Cuddalore via. Mamallapuram and Tindivanam - Nagari.   Some of these projects  were announced  during 1996-1997 and 1998-1999. Having completed  all the  preliminary works  like studies on viability, feasibility, etc., before announcement,  it is not fair for any Government to stop the projects.  It is like showing a fruit to a child and then all of a sudden hiding it  to the disappointment of the Child.

It may not be out of place  if I mention  here that I took personal efforts in getting the Erode-Palani Project set in motion  during 2004 and 2009. Having  satisfactorily  fulfilled all the formalities  for launching the project,  it was stopped  much  to the dissatisfaction of the people  in the Area.

People of Tamil Nadu will be happy and thankful  to you  if you can kindly focus  your attention  to reopen the above-mentioned Projects and give them a new life and impetus  in the forth coming Railway Budget.

I am personally grateful to you for your detailed Letter to me.
